The special idiots decided on another trip to the Grand Canyon for a shot at the Rim to Rim to Rim. Approximately 50 miles and just under 11,000 feet of elevation gain. We drove down on Friday, ran on Saturday, and drove back Sunday. A long, but rewarding weekend! I don't have the time to write a detailed trip report so I'll just say that it went a lot better than the last time I did it. We didn't have to deal with 110+ degree temps. They were in the 40's to around 80 this time...much, much better! There was some smoke from wildfires that reeked havoc on my throat, but it wasn't too bad.
My time from South Kaibab Trailhead, to the North Rim and back to Bright Angel Trailhead was 16:56:07 which was about 5 hours quicker then the last scorching double crossing. I may wait until next fall to try this again, as it's pretty brutal and there are a few more runs I have some interest in doing. But I'll definitely be back. It is a stunningly beautiful place to run.
Oh, and the hamstring did fine until the last couple of hours and all it did was get a little tight, but no real problem!
|until next time...|
